HARDMAN, Thomas H. A PARLIAMENT OF THE PRESS: THE FIRST IMPERIAL PRESS CONFENRECE. Written and Compiled by Thos. H. Hardman. With A Preface by the Rt. Hon. The Earl of Rosebery. Illustrated. London: Horace Marshall & Son, 1909. Small 8vo., gray cloth stamped in black. First Edition. The conference was held in London and sponsored by the British press to consider a wide-range of issues affecting newspapers in the British empire. Topics included more use of the telegraph for international news, newpaper costs, monopolies of private cable companies, etc. A speech by Winston Churchill appears on pp. 194-197 on the topic of relations between literature and journalism- a bit odd for a politician. Signed presentation from D. Watson on the front endpaper: "Col. Wm. M. Macpherson, Quebec, With most pleasant recollections of my first visit to the motherland. D. Watson, Quebec, 20 Augt. '09." Macpherson was an honorary Lt. Col. in the Eighth Royal Rifles of Quebec. No information could be found on Watson. Stamp of the Ursulines Communaute Quebec on the title page. Good (little sunning and few tears to cloth along edge of spine; little cracking front hinge; contents nice). Uncommon! $125.00.
