THE AUTOGIRO AND HOW TO FLY IT

Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons, 1934. Item #1592

BRIE, Reginald. THE AUTOGIRO AND HOW TO FLY IT. Foreword by J. De La Cierva. Illustrated with five fold-out diagrams. London: Sir Isaac Pitman & Sons, Ltd., 1934. 8vo., blue cloth, stamped in gilt; 116 pages with 24 pages of advertisements bound at the rear. Revised, Second Edition. A scarce book on the precursor of the helicopter- the autogiro was a modified airplane with a helicopter-like propeller. This is the definitive book on how to fly it- written by the Flying Manager & Chief Pilot of the Cierva Autogiro Co., Ltd. based in London. Signed presentation from Brie on the front endpaper (his handwriting is sometimes hard to decipher): "To Mr. F.H.B. Nelson, with the Author's compliments mingled with memories of early dining [the rest of the inscription I cannot decipher], R. Brie, February, 1935." A handwritten note, in ink & presumably by Mr. Nelson, laid in: "Whatever views may be held in other quarters about vertical ascents, there can be no shadow of a doubt that the first practical helicopter will be an Autogiro." Very Good (front cover bright with some eroding to gilt on the spine; few very tiny snags to cloth along spine edge; contents clean & tight). Rare, especially signed by the author. $750.00.

Price: $750.00
