NY: Horace Liveright, 1929. First Edition, fourth printing. Signed presentation from Barnes on the front endpaper, to American author and journalist Edward Anthony: "To Edward Anthony- the talented author.. With many thanks for his `revealing impressions of women'- Carman Dee Barnes. Oct. 31, '29." The author was a 16-year-old school girl who was expelled from a fashionable girls school for writing this novel- which is an adolescent girl's realistic account of boarding school life, with an emphasis on "extracurricular activities." The book became an immediate bestseller, going into multiple printings. The story was dramatized and opened at the Ritz Theatre on Broadway when Barnes was 18 and Paramount Pictures bought the rights for $30,000 but the book was never made into a film. Small 8vo., red cloth, stamped in yellow, in a nice fifth printing dust jacket; 240 pages. Item #2621
