The Jonka Enterprises, 1974. Item #3743
JOHN QUINCY ADAMS AND THE AMISTAD. Foreword by California Congressman Ronald V. Dellums. Whites For Rights Series. [Oakland, California]: The Jonka Enterprises, [1974]. Quarto, pictorial wraps; 26 pages. Illustrated. First Edition. Very rare!! Early photographs in the book are of the author's ancestors. Out of their 16 great-grandparents, 11 were African Americans and lived during the time of the Armistad. The last six photographs are of the author's grand-parents: the first generation after slavery. The book pays homage to Adams and his legal battle involving the famous Armistad case and his other anti-slavery efforts. Signed presentation from both authors on the title page, to relatives: "To Prentice, Audry & Family- Best wishes! Love! Kathy & John Favor." Presentation appears to be in Kathryne's hand, with John signed his first name for himself. With notations under two photographs: one noting that the image is Prentice Sr.'s great-grandmother and another noting the image is that of "Charles Favors." Rare- try to find another! Very Good (little wear covers; contents clean & tight). $175.00.
