EXPERIENCES OF MR. AND MRS. PATRICK CUDAHY ON A JOURNEY TO A PORTION OF THE OLDEST HISTORICAL PARTS OF THE WORLD DURING THE FIRST FOUR MONTHS OF 1906.

Milwaukee, Wis. Burdick & Allen Printers, 1907. Illustrated with Photographs. First Edition. Inscribed by Cudahy on the title page: “Yours truly, Patrick Cudahy.” Patrick Cudahy Jr. [1849–1919) was an American industrialist in the meatpacking business and a patriarch of the Cudahy family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Patrick Cudahy Corporation is one of Milwaukee’s historic meatpacking giants. Moving to Milwaukee from Ireland as a child, he worked his way up at the Plankinton and Armour meatpacking plant, becoming the superintendent in 1874. In 1888 the owner, John Plankinton, transferred the company to Cudahy and his brother, becoming known as Cudahy Brothers. The company is known for its signature Sweet Apple-Wood Smoked bacon and ham. In 1892, Cudahy moved the company to a 700-acre site in the former Town of Lake, now the municipalities of Milwaukee, St. Francis, and Cudahy, which was transformed into an industrial suburb. The new facilities were able to process as many as 7,000 hogs a day. In 1906, citing poor health, Cudahy and his wife decided to go on a four-month tour, particularly to sites associated with the life and death of Jesus. This book is a rare account of this journey. Quarto: dark-brown cloth, stamped in gilt; 151 pages. Each Photographic Plate With A Tissue Guard. Item #57020

Very Good (covers nice but with little discoloration to lower corner of front cover; contents clean & tight, pencil "X" next to paragraph on page. 17, some tissue guards with creases). A nice copy of a very scarce book.
