Signed presentation from Greuzard on the front endpaper, to a fellow World War Two shipmate: “To Craig and Jean, my good friends and ex-shipmate. Chuck Greuzard.” The USS Mount Vernon (AP-22) was a large troop transport that served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Prior to her military service, she was a luxury ocean liner named the SS Washington. She ship crosses the Equator 32 times. The ship was frequently reported sunk but when she came into port, many would say “Here comes that ghost ship again.” Greuzard sailed to almost every theatre of war, writing poetry about the ships and men who sailed them. The ship was struck from the Naval Register in 1959 and sold for scrap in 1965.
