TO LIGHTEN MY HOUSE

Scarsdale, NY: Morgan & Morgan Publishers, [1953]. First Edition. Limited to 850 unnumbered copies. Signed presentation from Reid on the half-title page: “Love to Norman and Ruth from Alastair in Spring, 1953.” With an amusing inscribed card signed, on Morgan & Morgan stationery, laid in from publisher Marian Bryan: “Here is the great opus. I want to give you a copy- please. Best tell your friends there should be two in every literate home. Marian.” Alastair Reid [1926–2014) was a Scottish poet and a scholar of South American literature, especially for his translations of Jorge Luis Borge and Pablo Neruda. He is also known for his light-hearted style of poems. An unusual copy with the note from the publisher. Whoever Norman and Ruth are?- they certainly got one of the very first copies!
