Union College is a private liberal arts college in Schenectady, New York, United States. Founded in 1795, it was the first institution of higher learning chartered by the New York State Board of Regents, and second in the state of New York, after Columbia College (formerly King's College).In the 19th century, it became known as the "Mother of Fraternities", as three of the earliest Greek letter societies were established there. The many fraternities are featured in the Year Book. The college has had many famous graduates, including Charles Steinmetz.to whom this year book is dedicated. Charles Proteus Steinmetz [1865–1923] ) was a German-American mathematician and electrical engineer and professor at Union College. He fostered the development of alternating current that made possible the expansion of the electric power industry in the United States, At the time of his death, Steinmetz held over 200 patents. 8vo., brown limp-leather suede, stamped in gilt. 274 pages, plus ads. Not sure if every yearbook was bound in limp-suede leather since I cannot locate any other copy of the yearbook. However. if they were, these binding are notoriously fragile, which may account for their scarcity. Item #58376
