George H. Doran Company, 1916. Item #1084
NORWOOD, Robert. THE WITCH OF ENDOR. NY: George H. Doran Company, . Small 8vo., red cloth in dust jacket. First Edition, later printing. Signed presentation from Norwood on the half-title page: "To my radiant Meagan, the memory of one summer and her musical spirit. Robert Norwood." Laid in in a small photograph of Norwood sitting on the lap of an attractive young woman. There is a sheet of stationery tipped to a front blank page that has a handwritten poem by Norwood: "To Bobbie, from Bobbie" and dated August 1926. The 18-line poem is much like a love poem and a celebration of Bobbie's music although it appears to be a bit on the erotic side, especially since Norwood was an ordained priest who was married and had children. The ink name of Frances DeWitt Babcock is written on the front endpaper and dated December 31, 1926. Norwood was born in Nova Scotia, Canada in 1874 and this is one of his early dramas. A bit of an unusual copy that could certainly do with some more research! Very Good; moderate edgewear & short tears (one-inch chip base of spine and a two-inch tear on rear cover) d/j. $150.00.
