Signed presentation from Chapple on the front endpaper: "For my friend Mr. Lawrence Dame, With sincere personal regards of the author and an appreciation of an author who is doing wonderful work for dear old New England. Faithfully, Joe Mitchell Chapple. The Book Mart, Aug. 6, 1940." Dame, an author of several books and an 11th-generation New Englander, had just published his "New England Comes Back"- a study about New England returning from the depths of the Great Depression; hence, the reference in the presentation.
