First Trade Edition, preceded by a limited edition of 200 numbered copies. Carpentieri was a promising Hartford-area poet, writing in a Whitmanesque style, who was killed in action on July 19, 1943 in the Pacific arena during World War II while serving with the 43rd Division of the 169th U.S. Army Infantry. These poems were published posthumously. Signed presentation from Carpentieri's sister on the front endpaper, to the wife of the then-Governor of Connecticut: "10-15-51. To: Mrs. John D. Lodge- The charming and most gracious First Lady of Connecticut. Camille C. D'Esopo." John Davis Lodge was Connecticut Governor from 1951 to 1955.
