CHAMBERS, I. Mench. HAROLD PAYSON: A LIFE OF LOWLY MINISTRY. NY: F. Tennyson Neely, [1899]. Small 8vo., dark-blue cloth, stamped in silver and red. Signed presentation from Chambers on the front endpaper: "To Mrs. Robert Gillen, with compliments of the author. Merchantville, NJ. March 15th 1911." Contains a nice frontispiece of author. Chambers became an ordained minister in 1892. While still a student in college he took charge of a small chapel at E. Stroudsburgh, Pennsylvania and created a congregation before he even graduated. After three years, he had built a $10,000 church and had a large congregation. He became pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Merchantville, New Jersey in 1902.
