Typed Letter Signed

1944. Item #21565

MACLEISH, Archibald. Typed Letter Signed. One page, on Librarian of Congress stationery, Washington, DC, July 3, 1944. To Bernice Kaufman, wife of playwright George S. Kaufman, and to Jo Hennessey, a Viking Press representative. MacLeish thanks them for forwarding him a copy of Alexander Woolcott's "Letters" inscribed by both women. "The hastiest glance a the book is enough to show that you did a perfectly superb job. You will have the enduring gratitude of all of us- which will probably repay you very poorly for the tremendous amount of time and work you have put in, but which is very real, notwithstanding. Faithfully yours, Archibald MacLeish." MacLeish was appointed Librarian of Congress from 1939 to 1944 under FDR's New Deal administration, which probably represents one of the most interesting periods in MacLeish's life- both politically and artistically. $125.00.

Price: $125.00
