KEENAN, George. Autograph Letter Signed. A lengthy 12-page letter (on three folded sheets of stationery), in pencil, to his cousin George, dated March 8, 1895, Wellington, Kansas. Keenan writes about hoping to read a Russian play written by his cousin and says he too has aspired to write a similar play. "I have seen all or most of the Russian and Siberian plays that have been put on the stage...(but) as representations of Russian life they are simply beneath criticism." Keenan, who explored and wrote extensively about Russia, goes into great detail on how a Russian play should be produced and staged, including comments on sets, costumes, etc. "I have never seen a Russian play yet that in stage setting made even an approximation to verisimilitude."
