MEYERSTEIN, E.H.W. THE VISIONARY AND OTHER POEMS. London: The Richards Press, 1941. Small 8vo., printed wraps. First Edition. Autograph Letter Signed from Meyerstein laid in. The letter is to Mrs. Gordon, wife of George Stuart Gordon, President of Magdalen College. Gordon was also professor of poetry at Oxford and Vice Chancellor of the University from 1938 to 1941. Meyerstein writes that Mr. Gordon saw the proofs of this title before he left his vice chancellorship and that he is now sending on the final book. "Don't bother him with it." He also asks that they not acknowledge "the quasi-Christmas card; I know it was acknowledged in thought." Meyerstein also says he hopes they like the poem on p. 21, which is "Magdalen Choir." Also inscribed on a front blank page by Meyerstein: from the writer with sincere regards. Christmas, 1941." Meyerstein, an English writer and scholar, is best known for his "Life of Thomas Chatterton." His novel "Bolland", written in 1920, remained unpublished until 1958, after his death.
