REMINISCENCES OF HENRY CLAY BARNABEE

Chapple Publishing Company, 1913. Item #2604

VARNEY, George Leon, [Editor]. THE REMINISCENCES OF HENRY CLAY BARNABEE. Being An Attempt To Account For His Life, With Some Excuses For His Professional Career. Boston: Chapple Publishing Company, 1913. Illustrated. 8vo., brick-red cloth, stamped in gilt with an image of Barnabee on the front cover; 461 pages. First Edition. Barnabee [1833-1917] was an American actor and operatic comedian and was active in Boston-area theatre groups. Inscribed by Barnabee on the front endpaper: "Sincerely, Henry Clay Barnabee." Also with a signed presentation from actress Julia Dean on the front pastedown, to American stage and film actor Frank Craven: "To my dear Frank from Julia Dean" and inscribed by her again on the first page of the text: "Julia Dean- To Frank Craven." Dean [1878-1952] was a stage and film actress who began her career in the 1890s and ended up making silent pictures from 1915 to 1919. She then devoted her career to the stage until 1944 when she appeared in "The Curse of the Cat People" and later in noir classics like "Nightmare Alley." Craven is probably best remembered for originating the role of the Stage Manager in Thornton Wilder's "Our Town." Good or better (little wear spine ends and bit of fading to spine; contents clean & tight). $85.00.
