First Edition. Signed presentation from Serafimovich on the front endpaper, mentioning "Revolutionary Struggle." Aleksandr Serafimovich's most famous novel, originally published in Russian in 1924, deals with the breakout of the Red Army from the White encirclement. The depiction of a Communist hero won praise from Soviet critics; but when the prototype of the hero was arrested and shot in connection with the Tukhachevsky affair, sales of the book were temporarily suspended. The novel soon returned to favor and Serafimovich won the Stalin Prize in 1943 for his services to Soviet Literature. Signed copies of this title are scarce.
