First English Edition, first published in Paris in the same year. With the personal bookplate (although it appears to be a non-contemporary one?) on the front pastedown of the translator, Edward Mangin. Signed "Mary Mangin" in ink on the title page. Edward Mangin [1772-1852] was a miscellaneous writer and a descendant of a long-line of Mangin in Ireland, dating back to at least in 16th century. Mary Mangin was his wife, being the daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Nangreave of the East Indian army. She died in 1846. A scarce book!
