Given by the captain of the Spanish-American war, Frederick E. Pierce." Also signed by "Emilie Baker" at the top of the page. Also with an inscription on the rear endpaper by Emilie (apparently in later years): "Given to me by Captain Frederick E. Pierce, a Spanish-American war captain. Presented on May 30, 1932."
