Signed presentation from Stedman on an early page of the text: "K. Ferdinand L. Nichols, from E.C.S." With the personal bookplate of Dorothy Nichols Bryant on the front pastedown and the pencil name of Mary Nichols on a front blank page and the rear endpaper. The Nichols are somehow related to American author Kate Nichols Trask, who wrote under the penname Katrina Trask. She is the founder of the well-known upstate New York artist colony Yadoo.
