1929. A vintage 8-inch by 10-inch sepia photograph of America's most famous bandmaster. Signed presentation from Sousa: "To Mr. John C. Carr from John Philip Sousa, 1929." Possibly inscribed to one of Sousa's great clarinetists, John Carroll Carr, who was with the band until 1926. Sousa [1854-1932] was bandmaster of the U.S. Marine Band and composer of "The Stars And Stripes Forever," "Washington Post March," and many other musical scores and marches. Sousa, who invented the sousaphone, frequently performed at the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove, New Jersey. He played once in the Asbury Park Casino in 1917 while on the Sousa Band Tour. His protegee, Arthur Pryor, became Asbury Park's most famous band leader. Handsomely matted and framed. Few clean tears into photograph. Item #4463
