The Kent State University Press, 2003. Item #553

DeSARIO, Jack P. [With William D. Mason]. DR. SAM SHEPPARD ON TRIAL: The Prosecutors And The Marilyn Sheppard Murder. Kent, [Ohio]: The Kent State University Press, [2003]. Small quarto, cloth in dust jacket. First Edition, first printing. An attempt by the authors, who defended Ohio in a civil suit surrounding the famous murder, to provide all the facts, evidence, testimony and sworn statements surrounding the case. Marilyn Sheppard, who was four-months pregnant and the mother of a 7-year-old son, was bludgeoned to death in her Bay Village, Ohio home on July 4, 1954. Her husband, Dr. Sam Sheppard, was convicted of the murder but later released in a retrial headed by upcoming legal eagle F. Lee Bailey over unfair media coverage. Sheppard's son, Sam Resse, subsequently sued the state seeking damages and attempting to prove the innocence of his father. Signed inscription by William D. Mason, then Cuyahoga County prosecutor in the case and co-author of the book, on the title page: "Best Wishes, Enjoy the book! Bill Mason." Signed copies of this book are scarcely encountered. Fine condition in equally nice d/j. $125.00.
