A GOLDEN ASTERISK IN TIME: VERSE WRITERS' GUILD OF OHIO

Avonelle Associates, 1978. Item #55617

CARTER, Lillie M. A GOLDEN ASTERISK IN TIME. [Columbus, Ohio: Avonelle Associates, Ltd., 1978]. 8vo., tan printed wraps; 133 pages. First Edition. A poetry anthology compiled by the Verse Writers' Guild of Ohio in celebration of its Golden Jubilee: 1928-1978. With four poems contributed by Lillie M. Carter. Carter, born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, became a school teacher in Ohio and contributed to many black anthologies and magazines. A small leaflet of her poems was placed by Langston Hughes in the Schomberg Collection in New York City and in the James Weldon Johnson Memorial Collection at Yale University. Signed by Carter on the title page, adding "p. 127-9." On these pages appear four poems by Carter. Believed to be from the library of Alice Dunnigan [1906-1983], the first black female correspondent for Congress and the White House. She was also the Washington, DC bureau chief for Associated Negro Press. The other book that came in this lot was inscribed to Dunnigan but there is no direct evidence in this book. A scarce, signed anthology with African-American ties. Very Good. $125.00.

Price: $125.00
