Bohan, who was also an artist, came to America from England in 1854 and lived mostly in Wisconsin, where she was a teacher. The is a novel about the un-Christian injustices of the American penal system- an unusual topic for a woman author back then. An uncommon book, especially signed by the author. Small 8vo., pictorial green cloth, stamped in gilt & black; 332 pages. Item #55774
