THE HISTORY OF ENGLAND FROM THE ACCESSION OF JAMES II. FIVE LEATHER-BOUND VOLUMES.

Philadelphia: B. Lippincott & Co., 1867. A complete five-volume set- nicely bound in leather & marbled boards. “The History of England from the Accession of James the Second” is the full title of the five-volume work by Lord Macaulay. This work was a seminal and paradigmatic example of Whig historiography and its literary style has remained an object of praise since its publication, including subsequent to the widespread condemnation of its historical contentions which became popular in the 20th century. With the personal bookplate of author Russel Woodward Leary on the front pastedown in each volume. Leary was the author of “Italian Lanes & Highroads,” published in NY in 1912. Thick 8vos., blue calf quarter-leather & marbled boards; gilt-tooled spines, marbled edges & endpapers. Very Good (little wear covers & bit of fading to lower edge of the front board on Vol. V.; all volumes have some scattered foxing, especially to the earlier pages). Item #56224
