RIDDLES IN RHYME: CHARADES OLD AND NEW.

Cambridge: Washburn & Thomas, 1927. First (Revised?) Edition. Signed by Briggs on the title page. Le Baron Russell Briggs [1855-1934) was an American educator. He was appointed the first Dean of Men at Harvard College, where he also served as dean of the faculty. He was also president of Radcliffe College and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. “Riddles In Rhyme” is a collection of entertaining charades. Briggs writes in the Preface that he hopes “that nothing in this volume need call a blush to any cheek but his own.” Known for his patience in dealing with errant undergraduates, Briggs was also known for “his always kindly humor endeared him to everyone," wrote an associate. Briggs published the novel “Men, Women And Colleges” in 1925. 12mo., blue cloth, stamped in gilt; 140 pages. Item #56971
