This work represents the first book-length attempt to analyse and evaluate in some detail Nehru’s place as a political thinker of the m9d-twentieth century. Smith received dual bachelor's degrees, one in arts and the other in theology, from Eastern Baptist College and Theological Seminary in 1951. He completed a master's degree in 1953, and a doctorate in 1956, both in political science.
