Sincerely, Jim Vedder. 11-30-84.” This title was also published by Brand Olympic Marketing Corporation and this Presidio edition may be a later edition or a book club edition. Copies signed by Vedder are scarce. Biography of a Marine Corps doctor on Iwo Jima during WWII. From the landing on Mount Suribachi to the northern tip of the island, the battle for Iwo Jima was a perilous fight against the entrenched Japanese. Originally planned as a three-day operation, the battle lasted thirty. As chief medical officer for the 3rd Battalion, 27th Marines, the author experienced the extreme horror of war.
