Frederick H. Koch. C.D.A. Award 1937.” Frederick Henry Koch [1877-1944] was founder of the Carolina Playmakers at the University of North Carolina and considered the father of American folk drama. Playmakers’ theatre became the first state-subsidized playhouse in America and its company toured the Southeast presenting folk plays.
