THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FI.NN. (TOM SAWYER'S COMRADE).. IN TWO VOLUMES.
Leipzig: Bernard Tauchnitz, 1885. Authorized Edition. First Tauchnitz Edition. [Volumes 2307 & 2308]. Published in the same year as the first American edition. Tauchnitz was the name of a family of German printers and publishers. They published English language literature for distribution on the European continent outside Great Britain. Though copyright protection did not exist between nations in the 19th century, Tauchnitz paid the authors for the works they published and agreed to limit their sales of English-language books to the European continent. With the last title listed opposite the title page in Volume One is “Sketches,” published in 1875. So, this set is probably a very early Tauchnitz edition. 12mo., red quarter-morocco leather & marbled boards; marbled endpapers. Item #58483
Very Good (bright, only minor wear; contents clean & tight). A nice item for a Twain collection.
