WASHINGTON SQUARE

NY: Harper, 1881. Illustrated by George du Maurier. First Edition [Edel & Laurence A15a; BAL 10551]. An interesting copy! From the office library of Chubb & Sons insurance company in New York City. With the company's library bookplate on the front pastedown, stating this copy was donated by Hendon Chubb, founder of the economy. Also, with an ink presentation on a front blank page: "To dear mama from Mabel. Christmas, 1880." Mabel is most likely Herdon's sister, Mabel Ada Victoria Chubb. "Washington Square" was for sale to the public in December 1880; hence, the date in the inscription. 12mo., drab, olive-green decorative cloth, stamped in dark-brown & gilt. 266 pages with six pages of ads. Item #58494

Very Good (some rubbing covers, tiny repair front endpaper with archival tape, one signature very slightly pulled but still tight).

Price: $350.00
